It all started in December 2001 when Mel and Lee decided to hold a charity event to support the Worthing Haematology Trust Fund. They held it at Area 51 in Chapel Road, Worthing right next to Monster Music. They had lined up a bunch of great local bands but also wanted to play themselves, so they got together with a group of local musicians/friends from all sorts of musical backgrounds to form the band LICK.
The charity event was called RED NOIZE and was a resounding success. We put together a set of covers ranging from Punk to Rock to Pop to Ballad and had a great time. The response from the public to our performance was fantastic and we had so much fun ourselves that we decided to carry on as LICK and do some gigs. Years later we are still playing and still enjoying every minute of it.
During the summer of 2003 whilst sitting outside a pub drinking beer after a rehearsal, Nick came out with an idea he had about opening a music shop. He asked the rest of us if we would be interested in joining his venture and, talking it through, it became clear just what a good idea it would be. We realised that between us we could create something that is much more than just a music shop. We cover just about all the skills that would be needed. Nick is not only a guitar fanatic but also a successful businessman. Steve works in the computer industry and has his own recording studio. Mel is a qualified bookkeeper and has a lot of experience with promoting events, working with agencies etc. Lee is an experienced music shop manager and Stuart is an electrician who often does sound for local bands.
Once the decision to go ahead was made LICK MUSIC became a reality. As luck would have it, Paul from Monster Music was planning to move to Spain so we took the shop over and ended up right next to where it all began.
Our aim is to provide a service to the local musical community like no other currently available. We want to provide good quality products at competitive prices to musicians of all ability and musical preference with a service that is second to none. We not only sell equipment but also have a PA and Light hire department, carry out repairs using local Luthiers or Electronics engineers where necessary and install sound systems. We get involved with local organizations, venues and schools to promote the considerable local talent on our doorstep.
